WEYMOUTH, Mass. (May 13, 2024) 一 The Futures League announced today the hiring of back-to-back Massachusetts high school state championship-winning coach Brendan Morrissey to serve as the field manager of the inaugural Futures League Road Warriors team for the 2024 summer season.
Following a successful six-year run as Milton High School’s head baseball coach, Morrissey is in the midst of his first season leading the Milton Academy program in the competitive Interscholastic School League prep ranks.
“We are excited to welcome Brendan to the Futures League family to lead the Road Warriors this season,” Futures League Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “Brendan has extensive background coaching in Massachusetts and leading winning programs. His expertise and connections will be a great asset to the league and our players.”
The Milton native previously coached at Milton High School from 2018-23, turning his alma mater into one of the top public school programs in Massachusetts. He capped off his Wildcats tenure by leading consecutive teams to MIAA state titles in 2022 and 2023. As a result of his team’s successes, Morrissey earned Massachusetts Coach of the Year honors from the Boston Herald in 2021 and Boston Globe in 2022.
Morrissey’s Milton High teams amassed an 81-32 overall record, including a 17-3 mark in the playoffs. He also led the Wildcats to three Bay State League championships while coaching a pair of league MVPs, including the 2023 MIAA Player of the Year in Owen McHugh. McHugh is a freshman pitcher/shortstop for Williams College who played for the Brockton Rox last summer and was one of the initial players signed to the Road Warriors’ roster.
Morissey also serves as the co-founder of the Matt Duffy Baseball Knights, helping to develop countless players from the South Shore of Massachusetts with the club program. The graduate of Milton High School and Saint Anselm College has also coached at Catholic Memorial High School and in Milton’s American Legion program.

The Futures League Road Warriors were assembled following the Pittsfield Suns’ announcement in February to pause for the 2024 season. The team will play a 34-game, road-only schedule, which allows for the seven other Futures League teams’ home dates to remain as scheduled.
The 2024 Futures League season will begin on Friday, May 24. The Road Warriors open the following night, Saturday, May 25, with a trip to Dodd Stadium to face the defending champion Norwich Sea Unicorns.
