Rosters Announced for 2023 Futures League All-Star Game in Vermont

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (July 19, 2023) — The Futures League has announced the rosters for the 2023 All-Star Game, which will be played for the first time ever next Tuesday, July 25 at historic Centennial Field in Burlington, Vt.

The crop of players have been split into Team Lake and Team Mountain as an ode to the beautiful landscapes of the Green Mountain State. Team Lake will be managed by Pete Wilk of the host Vermont Lake Monsters, while reigning Futures League champion Kyle Jackson of the Nashua Silver Knights will lead Team Mountain.

Team Lake not only features eight members of the Lake Monsters but also the top two hitters for average in the league in Norwich infielder Dean Ferrara (Fairfield) and Worcester counterpart Tyler Bastunas (Drury). Ferrara, who is on pace to set a new single-season league record with his .442 average, is one of a league-leading 10 Sea Unicorns on the all-star rosters. Bastunas has 34 stolen bases.

Two of the Vermonters on Team Lake are Wyatt Cameron (Central Connecticut State) and Callan Fang (Harvard), who have formed an outstanding relief duo with 13 combined saves for the Lake Monsters. Cameron has earned his second straight Futures League All-Star honor and joins a handful of other players in earning that distinction.

Team Mountain includes two repeat honorees on the mound in New Britain’s Brian Hart (Hofstra) and Westfield’s Kevin Zarnoch (Worcester State). Bees infielder Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State) earned an all-star nod at third base. Jackson’s squad also includes speedy Silver Knight outfielder Luca Giallongo (New England College), who earned midsummer and postseason honors with Westfield in 2022.

Current Starfire first baseman Nick Serce (Alfred State) leads the league’s group of power hitters with 10 home runs and will be on full display during Monday night’s Home Run Derby as well as the Tuesday game. Three of the last five Futures League seasons have ended without a player reaching double-digit long balls. Serce’s collegiate and Westfield teammate Ryan Bailey (Alfred State) will join him in Burlington as the league’s strikeout leader.

Futures League fans will also have the opportunity to name two additional players to the midsummer classic, as the Futures League All-Star Fan Vote returns in 2023! Cast your vote here by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 21. The ballot includes one player from each of the league’s eight franchises. The top two vote-getters will be added to all-star rosters.
