WEYMOUTH, Mass. (August 18, 2021) -- The Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) has announced that Game Three of its 2021 Championship Series, which was scheduled for Thursday, August 19 in Burlington, Vt., has been postponed due to forecasted heavy rain and storms from the remnants of Tropical Storm Fred.
As a result, the game between the top-seeded Vermont Lake Monsters and second-seeded Pittsfield Suns will now be played on Friday, August 20 at Centennial Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
“With the forecast calling for rain throughout Thursday, the league has decided to be proactive and postpone the deciding championship game,” FCBL Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. “We are now looking forward to capping off our season on a great Friday night in Burlington.”
Thanks to Vermont’s 12-5 win Wednesday at Wahconah Park, the league’s title series was pushed to a deciding third game for the second consecutive year. The road teams have captured the first two games of this year's series, as Pittsfield earned a 10-2 win in Tuesday’s opener at Centennial.
The Nashua Silver Knights took home their record fifth championship with a Game 3 win over the Worcester Bravehearts in 2020, but either the Lake Monsters or Suns will become first-time winners of the FCBL on Friday night.
