Weekly Rundown: 2019 Futures League Week 6
Week 6 of the 2019 Futures League season was one of the most exciting yet! During this 4thof July week, there were three walk off wins, a home run derby victory, and multiple double-digit performances. There were offensive explosions as well as dominant pitching performances that made it an amazing week of Futures League baseball!
Monday, July 1st
North Shore 3, Worcester 1 (Game 1 of Double Header)
The North Shore Navigators took Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Worcester Bravehearts in seven innings by a a score of 3-1. Sean Lawlor shined for the Navigators going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Trevor Johnson highlighted a struggling Worcester offense going 1 for 2 with a run scored.

Worcester 9, North Shore 8 (Game 2 of Double Header)
The Worcester Bravehearts scored five clutch runs in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the North Shore Navigators in Game 2 of their double header Monday night. Nicholas Martin had the game-winning single for the Bravehearts in the seventh. Paul Coumoulos had a good day at the platefor the Bravehearts as well going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Colin Macko led the Navigators offense in their losing effort going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

The Brockton Rox exploded for 17 runs on 18 hits to defeat the Pittsfield Suns 17-6. Mike Sabatine had a monster day for the Rox going 5 for 5 with four runs scored and six RBIs. Dom Hughes was a bright spot in the Suns lineup going 3 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Bristol Blues scored eight runs on 10 hits to outscore the Nashua Silver Knights 8-2. Brandon Miller led the Blues offense going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. The Silver Knights had a tough time driving in runs but Mike La Rocca hit well going 2 for 4.

The North Shore navigators put up 11 runs on 13 hits to outscore the Westfield Starfires by a score of 11-4. Sean Lawlor continued his great week and led the red-hot North Shore offense going 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Devin Kellogg led the Westfield offense going 2 for 4 with a run scored.

The Pittsfield Suns shut out the Bristol Blues while scoring eight runs on 10 hits to defeat the Blues 8-0. Jeff Boggess led the Pittsfield offense going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Bristol only had six hits in the game but Zeke Diamond had three of them going 3 for 3.

The Nashua Silver Knights were outhit 8-6 but managed to hold the Brockton Rox to one run and defeated them by a score of 4-1. Jack Arend led the Silver Knights offense going 1 for 2 with three RBIs. Gaby Cruz and Anthony Calarco led the Rox offense as Cruz went 3 for 5 and Calarco went 2 for 3.

The Nashua Silver Knights exploded for 15 runs on 16 hits and held the Worcester Bravehearts to just two runs for the 15-2 victory. Jared Dupere had a monster day for the Silver Knights, who had multiple players with multiple hits, going 4 for 5 with four runs scored and four RBIs. John Thrasher led the Bravehearts offense going 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

The Nashua Silver Knights secured the sweep of the Worcester Bravehearts with a 7-6 walk-off win in seven innings. Nashua only had five hits in the game compared to Worcester’s 10 but scored the walk -off run on a wild pitch in the seventh. Dylan Jones led the Nashua offense going 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Tyler Becker stood out in the Worcester lineup going 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

The Westfield Starfires had the league’s second walk-off win of the day defeating the Brockton Rox in the ninth inning on a Brockton error. Angelo D’Acunto led the Starfires offense going 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. B.J. Murray stood out in the Brockton lineup going 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs.

The Bristol Blues scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 5-4 victory against the North Shore Navigators. North Shore scored their four runs within the first three innings and only had four hits in the game compared to Bristol’s 12. Parker Upton led the Bristol Offense going 3 for 5 with a run scored. Colin Wetterau shined for the Navigators with half of the team’s hits going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

The Worcester Bravehearts avoided a late Nashua Silver Knight comeback to hold on for the 11-9 victory on Independence Day. Trevor Johnson led the Bravehearts offense going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Nashua’s Billy Butler had a productive day finishing 1 for 1 with a run scored and three RBIs.

The North Shore Navigators scored nine runs on 12 hits and shut out the Pittsfield Suns for the dominant 9-0 victory Thursday night. Ben Malgeri led the Navigators offense going 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. The Pittsfield Suns only had six hits on the day and Jeff Boggess and Jack Culumovic both went 2 for 3 to lead the offense.

Kade Kretzschmar led the Navigators offense as he went 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBIs. Tommy Quinn was a bright spot in the Westfield lineup going 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Westfield Starfires won Game 2 of the double header with a walk-off two-run home run from Sean Murphy to split the double header against the North Shore Navigators. Danny Crossen and Christian Walsh led the Westfield offense on the day both going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Sean Lawlor had another great game in the heartbreaking Navigators loss going 2 for 5 with two runs scored and five RBIs.

The Worcester Bravehearts exploded for a whopping 22 hits and 16 runs in a 16-2 rout of the Bristol Blues. Nicholas Martin and Paul Coumoulos both had monster days for the Bravehearts. Martin went 5 for 7 with four runs scored and four RBIs on the day while Coumoulos went 5 for 6 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Jack Gardner also had a great day at the plate going 3 for 5 with a run scored and three RBIs. There were also three other multi-hit games in the Worcester lineup. Brogan Searle-Belanger led the struggling Bristol offense going 2 for 3 with a run scored.

The Pittsfield Suns defeated the Bristol Blues in an exciting and dramatic home run derby ending after the game tied after the 10thinning. The combination of Jackson Petersen, Taylor Beckett, and Caeden Trenkle put up 7 home runs in the derby to beat the Blues by one home run! The Suns would win the derby therefore winning the game. Trenkle was also the highlight of the offense in this game going 3 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI. Bristol’s Brandon Miller went 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI in the game.
