Futures League Recognizes 2024 Postseason All-League Teams

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (October 28, 2024) 一 In a final on-field look back to its 14th summer season in New England, the Futures League recognizes its top players with the release of the annual All-Futures League Teams on Monday.

The All-Futures League First and Second Teams, which are presented by Zorian Bats and Zephyr, highlight players by position after nominations were received from each of the eight franchises’ field managers. Each Futures League organization is represented across the two lineups, which both include five starting and two relief pitchers, one player at each infield position, four outfielders, and spots for both a designated hitter and utility player.

A full listing of both teams can be found at the end of this release.

The All-Futures League First Team features numerous winners of Futures League major awards, including the Vermont Lake Monsters’ first-ever Most Valuable Player in catcher Mark Quatrani (Cornell) and the Worcester Bravehearts’ Brady Stuart (Endicott). Quatrani led the league with a .465 slugging percentage, while Stuart struck out 54 in 44 innings to best all pitchers. Vermont Lake Monsters veteran Sean Gamble (Minnesota State) saved seven games as the Relief Pitcher of the Year.

Three first-team outfielders were also honorees throughout the summer. Gianno Merlonghi (Central Connecticut State) was not only a top-10 hitter himself, but routinely flashed the leather as Defensive Player of the Year for the Westfield Starfires. A member of the two-time reigning champion Norwich Sea Unicorns, AJ Soldra (Seton Hall) became just the second Futures League player ever to earn both All-Star Game and Championship Series MVP.

Also in the outfield, Worcester’s Owen Pincince (Siena) topped all qualifying hitters in average at .376, and the Nashua Silver Knights’ Tommy Ahlers (Keene State) led the league in both runs scored (46) and total bases (82). Ahlers was the PLÁKATA! Player of the Month for May/June, getting off to a .339-hitting start through 29 games.

Joining Stuart on the top pitching staff are Westfield left-hander and league qualifying ERA leader Jake Jachym (Keene State), Norwich’s Hector Alejandro (UConn) who authored only the second nine-inning no-hitter in Futures League history on July 20, Vermont’s second-time All-Futures Leaguer Wyatt Cameron (Central Connecticut), and the New Britain Bees’ Esteban Rivera III (Franklin Pierce).

Around the infield are Westfield first baseman Aidan Redahan (Central Connecticut), Worcester second baseman Max LeFrancois (Assumption), Nashua shortstop Drew Loikits (Central Michigan) and Norwich third baseman Nick Tomasetto (Rutgers), the latter whose walk-off double in the ninth inning of the deciding championship game lifted the Sea Unicorns to their second consecutive league title.

Rounding out the first-team positional group is Westfield’s Trey Cruz (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) at designated hitter, who was the leading home run hitter in the league with eight. Vermont’s Zander Teator (Babson) had an incredible two-way season, hitting .303 with 12 RBI while striking out 26 in 15 innings alongside a 1.80 ERA and two saves as a relief pitcher.

The All-Futures League Second Team includes two repeat honorees from the 2023 squads in Nashua pitcher Andrew Chenevert (Saint Anselm) and New Britain first baseman Freddy Forgione (Binghamton). New Britain outfielder AJ Evasco (Kansas State) earned a nod after being named Top Pro Prospect among positional players.

Another Silver Knight on the second-team pitching staff is southpaw Cam Keaveney (Northeastern), who was one of the league’s top first-year collegiate pitchers with a 2.03 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 26.2 innings. Norwich’s Gavin Hawkes (Rider) racked up a league-high six wins out of the bullpen.

Also on the roster, Worcester catcher Dylan LaPointe (Florida Atlantic) matched Quatrani and finished one off Ahlers’ league RBI lead, Brockton Rox shortstop Dante Leach (Tennessee Wesleyan) swiped 30 bases, and Joe Muzio (UMass Dartmouth) represents the Futures League Road Warriors as designated hitter.
