The Futures League is seeking a communications and league office operations intern for the upcoming season, which begins in late May and ends with postseason series in approximately mid-August. The candidate would serve as a key assistant to the league office (primarily the Associate Commissioner/Director of Media Relations) for communications and operations tasks, and produce content for the league’s social media channels and website.
Applicants must have a proven interest in communications, journalism and baseball operations, possess a strong knowledge and understanding of the game of baseball, and be able to travel to Futures League games and events during the summer.
Applicants must be journalism and media-related majors with active involvement in their college sports and media programs and/or experience working in other baseball organizations. Baseball playing experience is a plus.
Previous Futures League interns are employed by Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball teams, as well as television news stations in Omaha, Neb., and Portland, Maine.
- Assist with day-to-day baseball communications and operations tasks within the league office
- Attend and cover Futures League games, including mandatory attendance at the All-Star Game and postseason for special event coverage
- Create graphics promoting nightly/weekly player award winners using provided design templates and post to league’s social media channels
- Clip highlights from live game broadcasts on the Futures League Network (via Hudl TV, formerly BlueFrame Technology) for social media content
- Coordinate with league staff and assist in choosing nightly/weekly player award winners, as well as All-Star and postseason awards following field managers’ nomination process
- Produce and create weekly video series and other videos to expand the league’s digital content
- Conduct interviews with Futures League personnel, including players, coaches and staff
- Turn around high-quality content quickly and with minimal oversight and supervision
- Share/promote content and engage regularly on the league’s social media channels
- Assist league statistics and scorekeeping management on Pointstreak (with training)
- Collaborate with league and individual ballclub staff for discussion of topics, ideas and gathering other material to help with league projects
