Norwich goes on hot streak, but Vermont still leads the pack
ROCKLAND, Mass. -- The final full week of June baseball in the Futures League is here.
The Vermont Lake Monsters continued their winning ways to maintain a first-place standing, but six of the league's seven teams have now hit the 10-win plateau and sit within 4.5 games of the top spot. The Norwich Sea Unicorns were the hottest team outside of Burlington, carrying a three-game win streak into the new week.
This week's look around the Futures League covers the games of June 15-21.
Zephyr Hats Futures League Player of the Week: Brady Paul, New Britain Bees (Winthrop University)
Paul went 6-for-19 with two doubles, a home run, six RBI and four runs scored for a .929 OPS in five games for the Bees last week, reaching base safely in all four of his starts. The recent transfer from Louisburg College to Winthrop completed the week with a 3-for-4, four-RBI performance in New Britain's 15-1 Sunday rout at Westfield. Paul doubled and homered in that contest.
Firecracker Sports Futures League Pitcher of the Week: Will Perkowski, Nashua Silver Knights (Southern New Hampshire University)
Perkowski dealt his second scoreless start out of four this summer on Thursday, striking out six across six innings of three-hit ball to lead the Silver Knights in a 10-4 win over Lowell. The 6-foot-4 native of New Boston, N.H., allowed only one hit over his final three frames, and with the help of an inning-ending double play in the third, faced the minimum over a span of 11 batters at one point.
