Futures League to Host Northeast Prospects Game on June 30
Top Futures League, Northeast region prospects will descend on Norwich
ROCKLAND, Mass. 一 The Futures League is proud to play host to the first-ever Northeast Prospects Game on Tuesday, June 30, marking a new event on the New England amateur baseball calendar just weeks ahead of the 2026 MLB Draft.
The game will take place at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, Conn., the home of the three-time defending Futures League champion Norwich Sea Unicorns. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. between the Futures League Prospects and the Northeast Scout Team.
Admission to the game will be free. Concessions will be available for purchase.
"This game represents a tremendous opportunity for some of the top talent in the Futures League to showcase their abilities against elite competition while performing in front of evaluators from across the region," Commissioner Joe Paolucci said. "We look forward to an exciting event for the players, scouts and baseball fans alike."
"Norwich is thrilled to host this first-ever game between top prospects of the Futures League and the Northeast region," Sea Unicorns General Manager Lee Walter said. "We feel this will be a great opportunity to show fans a look at some players who could soon join the growing list of Futures League alumni to make it into professional baseball, while also getting to see many of the top regional prospects for this year's MLB Draft."
Complete game rosters will be announced in the coming weeks, with the Futures League squad featuring rising stars from each of the league's seven franchises.
The Northeast Scout Team will feature top high school and college prospects from the region and is led by New York Yankees Northeast Area Scout Matt Hyde, who signed distinguished Futures League alumni Ben Rice (Dartmouth College/Worcester Bravehearts) and Cam Schlittler (Northeastern University/Nashua Silver Knights) in recent years.
The Northeast Prospects Game, which will take the place of the traditional Scout Day events at previous years' Futures League All-Star Games, will be the first-ever Futures League-wide event against the Northeast Scout Team. The Scout Team has played exhibition games against Futures League clubs in the past.
"This event will be a tremendous scouting opportunity allowing prospects to compete in a game setting in front of Major League organizations close to the Draft," Hyde said. "The Futures League saved summer baseball in New England during 2020, and the Northeast scouting community is forever indebted. The league continues to grow and provide players a place to develop while competing in first-class venues. The hope is that this can become an annual event on the scouting calendar leading up to the Draft."
